We would like to thank the over 35 competitive couples attending our
competition, our excellent panel of judges, the wonderful crowd of enthusiastic
spectators, and the many
SouthernStar volunteers for making our tenth
annual competition a great success.
The day moved along with out a hitch due to the control of affairs by
both Arnie Porter (the best deck captain in the area) and the truly talented Master of
Ceremonies, Richard Collet. Richard's experience on the competition floor gave him
the experience to move the competition along at just the right pace. Plus his subtle
humor was appreciated by all.
We had a very talented talented panel of judges that worked extremely
hard all day to give impartial and fair results. It was the general opinion of all
competitors that I spoke to, that to dance for such an esteemed panel was a definite
pleasure. Our panel consisted of Timithoy Mason, Tommy DiTomasso, Lynn Kawamoto,
Peter Waterson,
and special thanks to Alan Tuggey for filling in
for us at the last minute, enabling us to have a
full Championship panel.
As always the music provided by Mike & Peg Johnston, and Carol
Haefner and the facilities provided by Richard Collet were top notch. We are very
lucky to have both
Mike's music and the Rhapsody ballroom
for our competition.
Finally, the dinner catered by Buddy Freddy's seemed to be enjoyed by
all. The evening dance was well attended, and
the whole day was set off perfectly by the splendid
honor dances of our top competitors.
Once again, thanks to all who helped make the day a success, especially
all the wonderful dancers and the
very hardworking volunteers.
Mark your calendar for the third weekend of July in 2004 for
Midsummer Classic XI.

Nikki & I took some action photos at the competition. Unfortunately since Nikki
and I were competing in Standard and getting ready during Smooth, there are only pictures
of Rhythm and Latin. Next year we will get some one else to take some shots.
